CONRAD GEOSCIENCE CORP. Public Awareness

As the world confronts new environmental situations such as climate change and related energy challenges, scientists need to effectively communicate what they know about these problems and their possible solutions. Informing the public is important, but not sufficient. By listening and engaging the public in a way that both informs and addresses their concerns and perceptions (and misperceptions), we can begin to restore confidence in our collective ability to meet these challenges.

Carbon Capture and Sequestration – Conrad Geoscience is engaged in a public outreach and education effort to inform the community about our research into permanent geologic storage of carbon dioxide. These efforts include public informational sessions, distribution of written materials, briefings of elected and business leaders, and media accessibility.

Shale Gas – Tensions and misperceptions surround the subject of shale gas extraction and hydraulic fracturing (hydro fracking) in the Appalachians. Inadequate communication between the science and engineering community and the public and media has undermined trust and acceptance of shale gas extraction technologies, energy companies, and agencies that regulate the industry. Conrad Geoscience participates in public forums in communities where shale gas development is planned. Such forums are an effective way to inform the public through dialogue and to correct misinformation that often substitutes for fact.
